Buner floods submerge Pir Baba Market, cut power; two die in lightning strike

KP tourism dept sets up flood emergency response unit amid monsoon alerts

BUNER: Widespread flooding caused significant destruction in Pir Baba Khor, Buner, on Tuesday, submerging the local market and causing damage estimated in crores of rupees. Floodwaters inundated numerous shops, including those selling mobile phones, clothing, jewelry, groceries, and solar equipment, as well as surrounding streets.

Residents and shopkeepers attribute the severity of the damage to a blocked drainage canal, which prevented water from receding. The flooding even reached the Pir Baba Police Station, although police personnel were reportedly engaged in relief efforts.

Compounding the crisis, floodwater entered the Suvari 132 KV grid station, triggering a complete power outage across all connected feeders, plunging the area into darkness.

In a separate tragic incident amidst the severe weather, two women died due to a lightning strike in the Gokandghar area of Buner. The incident has instilled fear and panic among local residents.

Affected communities report that no effective action has been taken by the district administration so far to address the flooding or its aftermath. Victims of the flooding and the lightning strike are urgently awaiting immediate assistance and government attention.
