ISLAMABAD: Senior politician and former provincial minister Ajmal Wazir has claimed that the ruling coalition is now close to securing a two-thirds majority in the National Assembly and could achieve the same in the Senate if the 27th constitutional amendment is passed.
Speaking in an interview with Pakhtun Digital, Wazir pointed out that the recent Senate elections were unique, with TV tickers declaring victory for both government and opposition alliances. However, he raised concerns over which candidates the ANP and PTI lawmakers voted for, as neither party secured their own senators. “The ANP leadership has remained completely silent on this issue,” he noted.
Wazir acknowledged the temporary unity between the opposition and provincial government during the Senate polls but predicted a return to political tensions. “Now that all parties have achieved their goals, they will go back to their respective political battles,” he said.
He also commented on PTI leader Murad Saeed’s Senate victory, questioning when he would take his oath. “The situation remains uncertain,” Wazir said, adding that PTI leaders, including Imran Khan and Saeed, are facing serious legal challenges that cannot be ignored.
The political landscape, according to Wazir, is set for renewed confrontations as alliances dissolve and parties return to their traditional rivalries.
