PESHAWAR: To discuss the poor security situation of the province, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government have decided to hold an All Parties Conference (APC) today, while the opposition parties have decided to boycott all party conference.
According to official sources, the conference will discuss in detail the challenges facing the province, especially security-related issues, and will try to take all political parties into confidence.
However, the opposition parties have decided not to participate in the All Party Conference. In this regard, Opposition Leader Dr. Ibadullah said that “the decisions of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government are nominal, and these are just show-off measures.”
He added that all opposition parties will hold separate consultations to decide on a common course of action. Due to the opposition’s boycott, questions are being raised about the usefulness of the APC, while political observers say that the participation of all parties in such meetings is necessary for a lasting solution.
It is important to mention that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have witnessed a surge in terrorism related incidents, and in the last couple of months high high-profile personalities and religious figures were targeted in different areas of the province. The latest example is the target killing of Maulana Khanzeb in district Bajaur, who was a major campaigner of peace in the area.
