PESHAWAR: Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir paid an important official visit to the People’s Republic of China, held important meetings with the Chinese political and military leadership in Beijing, and agreed to further strengthen the Pak-China strategic partnership.
The Pakistani army chief held separate meetings with Chinese Vice President Han Zheng and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, in which they discussed the regional and global political landscape, promoting ties under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, and cooperation to address common geopolitical challenges.
Both leaders expressed satisfaction with the depth of bilateral relations and renewed their commitment to sovereignty, equal cooperation, and regional stability. According to the ISPR, during the visit, the Chinese leadership appreciated the key role of Pakistan’s armed forces in establishing peace and stability in South Asia.
Field Marshal Asim Munir met with General Zhang Youxia, Vice Chairman of the Chinese Central Military Commission, and General Chen Hui, Political Commissioner of the PLA Ground Force.
On his arrival at the PLA Army Headquarters, Army Chief Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir was presented with a guard of honour, which reflected the long-standing and deep relations between the armies of the two countries.
Important issues such as defense cooperation, counter-terrorism, joint training, modernization of defense systems and enhancing institutional linkages were discussed in the meetings. The two countries also emphasized promoting operational coordination to deal with hybrid and cross-border threats.
According to the ISPR, the Chinese military leadership expressed full confidence in the bilateral defence partnership and highly praised Pakistan’s constructive role in the region. Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir thanked China for its continued support and expressed his determination to expand military cooperation between Pakistan and China to the fullest extent possible.
