ISLAMABAD – The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has firmly rejected recent statements made by PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan, clarifying the legal status of several convicted individuals.
The ECP stated that Aijaz Chaudhry, Ahmed Chatha, and Malik Ahmed Bhachar were sentenced by an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC), and their convictions remain valid. The commission emphasized that these rulings have not been overturned.
Regarding Abdul Taif Chitrali’s case, the ECP explained that his situation differs because he did not file an appeal in the Islamabad High Court (IHC). While his co-accused successfully challenged their sentences and were ordered released, Chitrali did not join the appeal, leading to a separate legal notice being issued to him.
In a separate development, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to inaugurate the Pak Business Express tomorrow, a new initiative aimed at boosting trade and commerce.

The ECP’s clarification comes amid ongoing political tensions, with the commission asserting that court decisions must be respected unless legally overturned.
