Two PTM local leaders arrested in Bajaur

The police have arrested two protesters during the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) peace march in Bajaur. Those arrested include Ghairat Khan, the PTM provincial coordinator, and Suleman, the coordinator for Bajaur.

PTM workers were raising slogans against state institutions during the event. According to the district police officer (DPO) Waqas Rafique, the protesters were attempting to disrupt the ongoing peace jirga in Bajaur. The arrests were made under section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) Act.

Amid the ongoing tension between Taliban and security forces in Mamond Tehsil of Bajaur district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Grand Jirga has decided to convince the Taliban for talks to leave their area peacefully.

A Grand Jirga was held in the Badsiyah area of ​​Loi Mamond Tehsil of Bajaur for talks with the Taliban, in which a large number of political, social figures and the public participated. The Jirga unanimously formed a committee of 50 members, which will meet with the Taliban to ask them to leave the area peacefully.

The committee aims to talk to the Taliban to end the ongoing tension and restore peace in the area. The members of the Grand Jirga said that they will plead with the Taliban to leave the area and give the local people the right to live a peaceful life. The Bajaur Grand Jirga expressed its determination to talk to both sides and resolve the situation peacefully.

Two days ago army launched a military operation named Sarbakup to clear the areas of militants and restore peace in the area. The residents strongly reacted and staged a protest demonstration against the government for launching the operation in a peaceful area.
