PESHAWAR: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has failed to formulate a clear and agreed strategy for the nationwide protest on August 05, leaving workers and supporters in deep confusion, who suggest that blocking roads in already militancy-hit Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would further add to the problems being faced by the poor people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The party leadership has issued general instructions to protest in their respective constituencies across Punjab, but there are serious differences regarding the nature, location and leadership of the protest in a major city like Lahore.
Party sources say that some senior leaders want a large and central rally to be held in Lahore by gathering workers from all constituencies to demonstrate public power. On the contrary, Chief Organiser Alia Hamza and her close associates are emphasising that separate protests should be held in each constituency to avoid possible arrests and legal action.
The situation became even more complicated when the leadership could not reach a final decision even at the protest site in Lahore. According to party insiders, consultations are still underway on where the protest will take place in Lahore, and no official announcement has been made.
Given this uncertain situation, PTI workers and voters are waiting for clear guidance so that they can prepare for the protest. This moment is also important for the party because reports of raids on the homes of PTI leaders and possible crackdowns by the government have already surfaced.
Political observers say that the internal division of the leadership and the absence of a timely strategy may not only affect the effectiveness of the protest but also raise questions about the party’s organisational structure. Now it remains to be seen whether the PTI leadership comes up with a unified and clear strategy before August 5, or the protest movement will fall into chaos.
