Police Martyrs’ Day was observed with great devotion and respect across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on August 4, honouring the sacrifices of police personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty.
The central ceremony was held in Peshawar, where Inspector General of Police (IGP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Zulfiqar Hameed, highlighted the unwavering bravery and commitment of the force in the fight against terrorism.
Addressing the 11th annual Police Martyrs’ Day ceremony, the IGP said the sacrifices made by KP Police have turned the night of terrorism into the light of hope. “The spirit of freedom, martyrdom, and bravery runs deep in the blood of the people and forces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” he said. Chief Minister Sardar Ali Amin Khan Gandapur attended the ceremony as the chief guest.
The IGP reiterated the resolve that every officer and soldier of the KP Police will serve the nation with courage until the last drop of blood. He emphasised that August 4 is a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made for peace and a reaffirmation of the commitment to never forget the martyrs. “Despite severe challenges, the KP Police never abandoned a single post or duty point. They stood like a wall of courage and resisted terrorists on every front,” he added.
He paid tribute to the families of the martyrs, calling them the real strength behind the force. “Your loved ones have given life to the nation through their sacrifice. You are not alone—your sorrow is ours,” said the IGP, promising continued support through newly launched welfare apps aimed at addressing issues faced by martyrs’ families.
Acknowledging support from the provincial government, the IGP noted that despite financial challenges, efforts are being made to modernise the police force with advanced weapons and vehicles. The police martyrs’ compensation package has been increased to Rs 11 million, and the recruitment quota for their families has been raised to 12.5%.
Commemorative events were also held in Shangla, Battagram, Kohistan, and other districts. Officers, including DPO Shangla Shah Hassan, DPO Battagram Muhammad Ayaz, and DIG Bannu Region Sajjad Khan, praised the courage and sacrifices of the force, reaffirming their commitment to upholding peace and honouring the legacy of the martyrs.
Speakers across the province emphasised that the sacrifices of KP Police have earned both national and international recognition and that the legacy of the martyrs will continue to inspire generations to come.
