PESHAWAR : China has expressed serious concerns over Pakistan’s deteriorating law and order situation, calling it the biggest challenge to the development of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), revealed Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) leader Sikandar Hayat Sherpao.
During his recent visit to China, Sherpao met with Chinese officials to discuss the second phase of CPEC, regional security, and Pakistan-Afghanistan relations. He stated that while China remains keen on expanding CPEC, the rising instability in Pakistan is a major obstacle.
Sherpao, speaking on the Pakhtun Digital Podcast, emphasized that China wants reduced tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan to ensure regional stability and smoother trade. He also highlighted alarming security trends, disclosing that 383 terror-related incidents had occurred in Pakistan by July 22, 2024, severely hindering development and governance.
The QWP leader blamed the poor implementation of the National Action Plan (NAP)—formulated after the 2014 APS Peshawar attack—for the ongoing security crisis. On political matters, Sherpao asserted that his party has always prioritized Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s interests and expressed hope that voters would recognize true representatives in future elections.
