National Minority Day being observed on Monday

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is observing National Minority Day today (Monday) to recognise the contributions of the country’s religious and ethnic minorities and reaffirm Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s vision of a tolerant, inclusive, and united nation.

The day commemorates Jinnah’s landmark address to the Constituent Assembly on August 11, 1947, in which he pledged equal rights and religious freedom for all citizens.

Nationwide events — including seminars, cultural programmes, and interfaith dialogues — are being organised by government officials, civil society, and community leaders. Special messages from the president and prime minister reiterated the government’s commitment to equality, religious harmony, and social justice.

Prayers for national unity will be held in churches, temples, gurdwaras, and other places of worship, while youth groups will host activities to foster interfaith understanding.

National Minority Day highlights Pakistan’s cultural diversity and underscores the importance of upholding the tolerance and mutual respect envisioned by the country’s founding father.
