Apple may launch a cheaper MacBook in 2026

Amid low-budget competition in the market, Apple has decided to launch a cheaper MacBook in 2026. To make it affordable, the 13-inch MacBook is on its way to becoming an even cheaper MacBook, Ming Chi-Koo, an analyst specialising in Apple information, told MacRumors.

DigiTimes added fuel to the rumour fire, reporting that the new laptops could be priced between $599 and $699.The new 12.9-inch MacBook could represent a significant savings over the current $999 model. What kind of reduction does Apple plan to achieve? It’s all about reducing.

Apple is making a smaller screen than the current 13.6-inch model. So some savings on that 12.9-inch display could help deliver a lower price and most likely better battery life.

However, this chip has the potential to reduce the price significantly. According to Kuo, the same A18 Pro chip will be used as last year’s iPhone 16 Pro. It becomes the first Mac device powered by an iPhone chip.

This would mean that the M-series would lose its core chip, resulting in lower cores, lower memory capacity, and no support for external displays. This also means no Thunderbolt port, meaning the new 12.9-inch MacBook will only have USB-C.

Rumours are still thin on the ground, but with production not expected until later this year, the new 12.9-inch MacBook isn’t likely to be released until 2026, when Cove claims it will be available in silver, blue, pink, and yellow.

It should be mentioned here that Apple’s news could leak this week, and Google made the most noise with its Made by Google event on August 20th.
