PESHAWAR: Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has approached the Peshawar High Court, declaring the disqualification of senior party leader Omar Ayub unconstitutional. He says that the actions taken against PTI leaders are a clear violation of the constitution and law.
Barrister Gohar appeared in court and took the position that Omar Ayub was deprived of public representation by ignoring constitutional requirements. In an interview with a private TV channel (Dunya News), he said that the Election Commission neither gave notice to PTI nor received any formal reference from the Speaker National Assembly.
He said, “We have full hope of justice from the Peshawar High Court.” Omar Ayub is the pride of all of us, and we will fight a full-fledged legal battle against the injustice done to him. Our struggle will continue until the release of the founder of PTI.”
Meanwhile, a hearing was held in the Election Commission on the reference regarding Omar Ayub’s disqualification, which was held by a four-member bench headed by Sindh member Nisar Durrani. During the hearing, the PTI lawyer informed that Omar Ayub’s case is currently under hearing in the Peshawar High Court.
On this, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa member remarked that since Omar Ayub has already been convicted, he has been constitutionally disqualified, and the hearing of the current reference has become meaningless. However, to fulfill the legal requirements, the Election Commission adjourned the hearing until August 20.
