University professor held for allegedly harassing student in Malakand

ISLAMABAD: Police have arrested a lecturer of the University of Malakand for allegedly harassing and forcing a female student for marriage. A video of the professor is also making rounds across the social media.

According to the First Information Report (FIR) lodged at the Pul Chowki police station on February 4, a female student from the Pul Chowki area reported that she is a student in the at the University of Malakand.

The complainant stated in the FIR, “One of the teachers, Abdul Haseeb, a resident of Peshawar, has been following me for the past several months, trying to harass me and attempting physical assault. I reported this to the University management several times.”

She further detailed that the alleged professor entered her home on the day of the incident, held her hand, and tried to drag her away in front of her family.

The complainant also noted that the suspect left her home after threatening her with dire consequences if she refused to marry him.

After the issue highlighted and video of the professor went viral, the University of Malakand Media wing issued a statement on Sunday on the case. They confirmed the incident and stated that disciplinary action had been taken against the accused.

The statement said that the University Anti-Harassment Committee held a meeting where the victim was personally heard, and the committee will formally submit its report with the recommendations to the university syndicate for further decisions.

It said the university has a zero-tolerance policy for harassment and aims to maintain a safe, fair, and transparent educational environment.

The Malakand police have lodged an FIR under sections 365B, 511, 452, 354, and 506 of the Pakistan Penal Code, and the alleged suspect has been taken into custody as further investigation continues.
