Researchers urge adaptation of plant tissue culture technology

ISLAMABAD: A team of researchers from the Plant Tissue Culture Laboratory in Tarnab, Peshawar, led by Dr M. Rameez and accompanied by Dr Sher Mohammad and Ms Sidra Mukhtar, visited the National Institute for Genomics and Advanced Biotechnology (NIGAB) at NARC on Saturday.

The purpose of the visit was to explore NIGAB’s research facilities, exchange research materials, and discuss potential collaborations, with a particular focus on advancements in aeroponics and plant tissue culture.

During the visit, Engineer Bilal Ahmad provided a comprehensive tour, explaining the essential requirements for growing plants in aeroponic tunnels. He also elaborated on the cold storage facilities and the tuber grading system, offering valuable insights into their operations.

Dr M. Zeeshan, Senior Scientist, guided the team through the plant tissue culture laboratory and growth chamber, providing a glimpse into the ongoing research endeavors.

In a concluding meeting with Dr Kazim Ali, the Korea Program for International Cooperation in Agricultural Technology (KOPIA) Project in-charge, discussions focused on exploring new strategies and future collaborations in plant tissue culture technology.
