ISLAMABAD: Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has said that violent protests by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on August 14 and other national days are becoming a routine matter, which is a dangerous trend for national unity and security.

In his statement on the social networking website “X” (formerly Twitter), Khawaja Asif said that an individual prefers his political party over the state on every national festival and important occasion, and the behaviour of the PTI has made it clear that it has never been serious about state institutions and security issues.

He added that the PTI has never openly condemned terrorism. “Leaders like Asad Qaiser even said that they would not allow operations against terrorists in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which reflects a serious question about his character.

Khawaja Asif, referring to the statements of Aleema Khan, the sister of the former prime minister, said that during the Pak-India tension, she constantly accused the government of allegedly colluding with Modi, while during the same period, more than 700 army personnel had sacrificed themselves for the country.

“Regrettably, no PTI leader considered it appropriate to give a condolence statement for these martyrs, nor did anyone visit the families of the martyrs and express their condolences, but, on the contrary, hostile statements kept coming out.

He said that no individual, leader or party can be above the state of Pakistan. “First and last is Pakistan, and Pakistan will always remain long.”
