CHITRAL: Making history for Pakistan, a team of women mountaineers under official patronage completed the trekking to the advanced base camp of Trich Mir, the highest peak of the Hindu Kush mountain range.
According to Tourism Authority spokesperson Muhammad Saad, the team of 17 women trekkers completed the trek by crossing difficult mountain passes, icy glaciers and high valleys.
Among the female trekkers, one was from Kalash, two from Chitrali, one from Balochistan, four from Gilgit-Baltistan, while the rest belonged to different provinces. The team was assisted by 36 local porters and three local guides during the trek. On the special instructions of Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur, the trekkers were provided with all possible facilities.
A historic event also took place during the expedition when the six-year-old son of the local guide, Shezmir, also completed the trek to the base camp and set a unique record. Trekker Maria, appreciating the government support, said that it was a difficult trek, but thanks to the facilities, we were able to complete it.
Trekker Mashal from Balochistan said that she is the first woman from my province to achieve success in this trek at the national level. It was an adventurous and memorable experience.
Trich Mir is the third-highest peak in Pakistan and the highest peak in the Hindu Kush mountain range, with an altitude of 7708 meters. The successful completion of this important and unique trek is not only a testament to the capabilities of women but is also paving a new path for the promotion of adventure tourism in Pakistan.
To commemorate the 75th anniversary of Tirich Mir’s first ascent and encourage visitors to the region, the Pakistani authorities have announced free permits in 2024-25 for both climbing and trekking Tirich Mir.
