PDMA says 146 killed in KP cloud burst and flood

PESHAWAR: Provincial Disaster Management Authority(PDMA)releases initial report on loss of life and property in various districts of the province due to rains and flash floods in the last 24 hours.

PDMA reports says that so far, 43 people have died and 14 have been injured in various accidents due to rain and flash floods in the last 24 hours. The dead include 33 men, 2 women and 8 children, while the injured include 11 men, 2 women and 1 child.

According to the report so far, a total of 30 houses were damaged due to rain and flash floods. In which 25 houses were partially destroyed and 5 houses were destroyed. These accidents occurred in various districts of the province: Swat, Buner, Bajaur, Torghar, Mansehra, Shangla and Battagram.

The districts most affected by heavy rains and flash floods are Bajaur and Battagram, where rescue operations are still ongoing. The current series of heavy rains is likely to continue intermittently until August 21.

PDMA had already sent a letter to all district administrations to take precautionary measures as per the given weather situation. PDMA has been directed to intensify relief activities in all affected districts and provide immediate relief to the victims.

All relevant agencies have been directed to utilise all resources to restore closed highways and connecting roads at tourist destinations. All tourists have been directed to be informed about the weather situation and to take precautionary measures.

PDMA, all relevant agencies, relief teams, district administration and Rescue 1122 are in touch and are monitoring the situation. PDMA’s Emergency Operation Centre is fully functional. The public can contact the toll-free helpline 1700 for any untoward incident, weather condition updates and informationl, PDMA Spokesperson said.
