Rs 1.5 billion released: KP CM vows full rehab for Buner’s flood victims

Death toll rises as 15 more bodies recovered in Buner

BUNER:Chief Minister CM Khyber Pakhtunkhwa KP Ali Amin Khan Gandapur visited flood-ravaged Buner district today to oversee the crisis response. He chaired an emergency meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s office, attended by provincial cabinet members, lawmakers, Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah, and district officials. The session began with prayers for the flood victims.

Officials briefed the CM on the devastating situation: 209 people confirmed dead, 134 missing, and 159 injured. A staggering 5,380 houses were destroyed  by cloudbursts across seven village councils. Relief efforts involve massive resources: 10 excavators, 22 tractors, 10 pumps, 5 water bowsers, 10 dozers, and over 1,388 personnel from rescue services, health teams, police, civil defence, and three Pakistan Army battalions. Essential supplies like food, tents, blankets, and medical aid are being distributed.

Infrastructure repairs are underway, with 6 km of the Pir Baba road and 3.5 km of the Gokand road cleared, plus landslide debris removed at 15 locations. A relief emergency is declared in 8 districts, including Buner. Search operations continue for the missing, and 3,500 trapped people were safely evacuated.

 

CM Gandapur commended the swift response of government bodies and district administration. He directed officials to maintain this momentum in rehabilitation, stressing: “No effort should be left unturned.” He pledged the provincial government will “fully compensate” affected people and “not leave them alone”, prioritizing their resettlement and rebuilding damaged infrastructure. Compensation for families of the deceased and injured must be expedited, with Rs 1.5 billion already released for this purpose. Gandapur also thanked the Prime Minister and other Chief Ministers for their support and cooperation during the crisis.
