The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced on Friday that the prize money for the upcoming eight-nation Champions Trophy, set to begin in Pakistan next week, has been increased by 53%. The winning team will take home a staggering $2.24 million, while the runners-up will receive $1.12 million, according to an ICC statement.
The total prize pool for the tournament has risen to $6.9 million, a significant jump from the 2017 edition. “This substantial increase highlights the ICC’s commitment to investing in cricket and maintaining the global prestige of our events,” the ICC said.
In addition to the top prizes, losing semi-finalists will earn $560,000 each, while teams finishing fifth or sixth will receive $350,000. The seventh and eighth-placed teams will take home $140,000, with the last-placed team earning $125,000. Each group-stage victory will also be rewarded with approximately $34,000.
The Champions Trophy, scheduled from February 19 to March 9, marks a historic moment for Pakistan as it hosts its first ICC event in nearly three decades. The tournament promises to be a thrilling showcase of international cricket, with teams competing not only for glory but also for a share of the impressive prize pool.
