President of Russia Vladimir Putin, in a condolence letter to President Asif Ali Zardari, expressed grief and sorrow over the loss of precious lives in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The death toll from the flash floods has increased to 323, with 15 more bodies recovered in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Buner and one in Shangla on Sunday.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has released a report detailing the loss of life and property in various districts caused by recent rains and flash floods.
As of now, 323 people have died and 156 have been injured in accidents related to these weather events across the province. The fatalities include 273 men, 29 women, and 21 children. Among the injured, there are 123 men, 23 women, and 10 children.
The report indicates that a total of 336 houses have sustained damage due to the floods. Of these, 230 houses were partially destroyed, while 106 houses were destroyed. Additionally, 209 people have been displaced in the most affected district, Buner.
These incidents have occurred in several districts, including Swat, Buner, Bajaur, Torghar, Mansehra, Shangla, and Battagram. Heavy rains are expected between August 17 and 19, and the current rainfall is anticipated to continue intermittently until August 21.
In response to this disaster, and on the special instructions of the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the delivery of relief goods has been completed. This relief effort involved 89 trucks delivering essential items, which included tents, mattresses, bedding, kitchen sets, tarpaulins, mats, mosquito nets, generators, and other everyday necessities.
