Intermittent rain and risk of GLOF in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: PDMA alert

Heavy rain predicted across multiple areas in Pakistan
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a warning regarding intermittent rain expected in the various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Due to the heavy and continuous rainfall, there is an increased risk of glacial eruptions in the region’s glacial areas.

The PDMA issued an alert on Monday, urging the residents of Chitral Upper and Lower, Dir, Swat, and Upper Kohistan to remain vigilant about potential glacier-related incidents. The district administration has been tasked with monitoring sensitive areas and conducting timely warnings and evacuation drills as necessary.

Authorities advise against unnecessary travel near rivers and discourage the use of vehicles in fast-flowing water. Evacuation sites have been established in potentially affected areas, and emergency equipment and rescue services are on standby.

Tourists are also advised to remain alert and take precautionary measures in the event of an emergency. Additionally, the National Highway Authority (NHA), Frontier Works Organisation (FWO), and Communication and Works (C&W) departments are on alert to ensure timely road restoration efforts.
