Federal govt negligence to support flood vicitms is beyond comprehension: Asad Qaiser

federal government negligence

PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and former Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser has strongly criticised the federal government’s silence and negligence over the recent flood situation, saying that the federal government’s indifference is incomprehensible despite so much destruction in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Talking to the media in Swabi, he expressed his heartfelt sympathy to the flood-affected families and said that they are worried about irreparable losses in Buner and other parts of KP. However, the provincial government is carrying out the rehabilitation work effectively.

Asad Qaiser said that Pakistan is facing serious challenges like climate change, and timely measures are essential to deal with these challenges. He revealed that funds were provided by the World Bank for the installation of weather radars, but despite the passage of three years, the relevant tenders could not be completed, which is clear proof of the federal government’s poor performance.

The PTI leader said that he would raise the issue in the National Assembly and demand action against those responsible for negligence. He further said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was facing terrorism on one hand and an economic crisis on the other, where businesses are closing and unemployment has increased to an alarming level.

He demanded that the federal government immediately pay the province the net hydel profits and dues. Asad Qaiser also reminded that at the time of FATA merger, a three percent share in NFC was promised, which has not been fulfilled yet, due to which the province is facing severe financial difficulties.

He said that relief can be provided to the people by expediting the rehabilitation works after the floods, but for this, all stakeholders will have to rise above politics and unite on the same page.
