PESHAWAR: Peshawar High Court extended the stay order for appointing a new opposition leader in the National Assembly and Senate.

Hearing on petitions filed against the de-notification of PTI leaders Omar Ayub and Shibli Faraz, Justice Waqar Ahmed and Justice Dr. Kamran Hayat Miankhel heard the petition.

The petitioner’s lawyer said that the Speaker of the National Assembly and the Chairman of the Senate de-notified petitioners, that is why they approached the court, the petitioner’s.

Omar Ayub is the opposition leader in the National Assembly, and Shibli Faraz is the opposition leader in the Senate, the petitioner’s lawyer informed the court. The court issued a stay order at the previous hearing, stopping the appointment of a new opposition leader in the National Assembly and the Senate.

The Election Commission disqualified the petitioners. Despite this, the court restrained the Election Commission from further action. After the court orders, the Speaker and the Chairman of the Senate de-notified the petitioners.

The Election Commission and the Speaker’s Comments have not come yet to respond to the court order; however, Special Secretary Law for the Election Commission said that their comments are ready, and there were cases, which is why they did not submit them.

The court has sought responses from the Election Commission, Speaker National Assembly and Chairman Senate and ordered the secretary to submit your comments, Justice Waqar Ahmed. The court adjourned the hearing.
