PESHAWAR: Advisor to the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Information and Public Relations, Barrister Dr. Saif, has said that the Chief Minister has taken strict notice of constructions on waterways and has ordered preparations for a grand operation against encroachments.
He stated that a ruthless operation will be launched against encroachments, as illegal constructions on waterways are causing loss of human lives. Strict action will also be taken against encroachments along riverbanks, and full implementation of the River Protection Act will be ensured.
He said that in view of climate change, the removal of encroachments from waterways and riverbanks has become unavoidable. He urged the courts not to grant stay orders to those involved in such illegal constructions.
Barrister Dr. Saif further informed that the Chief Minister is visiting flood-affected areas, and as per his directives, payments to flood victims have already been initiated through a digital application. He added that the process of compensating flood victims is underway at a fast pace.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment, he said that all possible efforts will be made to fully compensate the losses in the flood-affected districts. Relief and rehabilitation activities are being carried out rapidly in all affected districts. Currently, five Army helicopters and one provincial government helicopter are engaged in relief operations.

He also informed that, under the special directives of the Chief Minister, the compensation package for the deceased has been increased from Rs. 1 million to Rs. 2 million. He emphasised that all concerned government departments are actively participating in the ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts.
