PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has taken an important step for the rehabilitation and immediate relief of the victims in the recent flood-affected areas and has decided to raise funds by deducting the salaries of government employees. The Finance Department has issued a formal notification in this regard.
According to the notification, two days’ salary of government officers of Grade 17 and above will be deducted. While one day’s salary of employees from Grade 1 to 16 will be deducted. This deduction will be made from the salaries of August 2025.
The Finance Department says that this decision was taken in a meeting of the provincial cabinet, which aims to provide funds required for immediate relief to flood-affected families. This decision has been taken in the spirit of humanitarian sympathy and collective responsibility so that the rehabilitation work can be completed as soon as possible in the affected areas.
Recent heavy rains and floods in various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have caused massive loss of life and property. In many areas, houses, crops and infrastructure have been destroyed, while thousands of families have been displaced.
The decision has received mixed reactions in government circles. Some employees are calling it a good humanitarian move, while others have reservations about the salary cut without consultation.
