Federal government approves uniform power tariff across the country

Nepra cuts power tariff by Rs1.89 per unit for august to october

ISLAMABAD: In a major policy shift, the federal government has decided to implement a uniform power tariff in line with fuel adjustment and other taxes across the country.

The federal cabinet has approved the implementation of uniform monthly tariff adjustments for the entire country, including Karachi. Earlier, separate monthly adjustments were applied for K-Electric and separate monthly adjustments for the rest of the country.

The federal cabinet has approved the decision of the Economic Coordination Committee on August 19, under which the monthly adjustment in the price of electricity will be uniform for the entire country. In both cases, the decrease or increase in fuel adjustment will be the same for the entire country; the basic electricity tariff and quarterly adjustment are applicable equally for the entire country, including Karachi. Under the new decision, the monthly adjustment will also become uniform for the entire country, like the quarterly and basic tariff.

There was a wide gap between the tariffs for various electric companies, and people were raising questions about the differences in tariff of electricity. The decision would be widely appreciated both at provincial and federal level.
