ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif met with three courageous shepherds from the Ghizer district of Gilgit-Baltistan: Wasit Khan, Ansar, and Muhammad Khan. These young men saved more than 300 precious lives by taking prompt action in response to a potential natural disaster.
While grazing goats in Ghizer, the three noticed a dangerous accumulation of water at a glacier located at a high altitude. Aware of the risks, they immediately alerted their villages about the possibility of a glacier leak-out flash (GLOVE). Thanks to their quick thinking, the residents of three villages were able to evacuate in time.
The Prime Minister recognised their spirit of service and extraordinary courage, declaring the three men “heroes of the 240 million people.” He announced a reward of Rs 2.5 million for each of them, as well as certificates of appreciation.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif also announced plans to visit Gilgit-Baltistan in the coming days and stated that the village that was saved from danger would be transformed into a model village. He emphasised that these young men serve as a beacon of hope not only for their local community but for the entire nation. Their timely decision has become a message of life for hundreds of families, and the entire nation salutes their remarkable spirit.
