WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump announced a new executive order that would impose a one-year prison sentence for anyone who burns the American flag.
Speaking at a White House press conference, Trump signed several executive orders, including one specifically targeting the desecration of the national flag. “If someone burns the American flag, he will go to jail for one year,” he stated.
During the wide-ranging conference, Trump also made significant claims about his foreign policy achievements. He asserted that his administration “destroyed Iran’s nuclear program” in a 36-hour operation.
A major focus was on relations between Pakistan and India. Trump claimed credit for brokering a ceasefire between the two nations, suggesting he prevented a larger conflict. “I brought about a ceasefire in Pakistan and India… if the war had not been stopped, it would have taken the form of a nuclear war,” he said. He added that seven planes had already been shot down before his intervention.
Shifting to the ongoing conflict in Gaza, Trump expressed disapproval of an Israeli attack on a hospital, noting that five journalists were among those killed. He stated, “He said that he was not happy with the Israeli attack on the hospital in Gaza.”
Concluding his remarks, the former president boasted about his record on conflict, saying, “I stopped 7 wars, but actually stopped 10 wars.”
