The United Nations has announced an initial emergency aid package of $600,000 to help the people affected by the recent devastating floods in Pakistan.
A UN spokesperson stated that the funds are intended to address the most immediate needs of those impacted by the disaster. While relief operations are being led by Pakistani authorities, the UN and its local partners are on the ground providing crucial support.
To better understand the scale of the damage, a high-level UN delegation is scheduled to visit the flood-affected areas today to conduct a firsthand assessment of the situation.
The UN has assured Pakistan of its continued support, promising that the country “will not be left alone in this difficult time.” The organization has committed to providing further assistance based on the needs identified during the assessment.
In unrelated international news, trade talks between India and the United States have concluded without an agreement.
