Flood in Punjab destroyed 1400 settlements, one million displaced to safer places

The water flow in the Ravi River at Shahdara has exceeded 183,000 cusecs, while according to the district administration, 200,000 cusecs of water is likely to pass through the Ravi River by this afternoon.

The capacity of the Ravi River is 250,000 cusecs, and 192,000 cusecs of water are passing through the Ravi Siphon as the flow is continuously increasing. The process of removing soil from the flood paths is ongoing, while more rescue personnel have been called, and additional boats have also been deployed.

The Lahore Commissioner says that the water flow at the Ravi Siphon has stabilised, and the water flow at Shahdara is also likely to stabilise in a few hours. Evacuation from the Ravi bed has been completed, while evacuation from nearby areas is underway.

Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb said that 12 people have died so far in various accidents due to floods in Punjab, and all institutions are on alert. Due to the intense pressure of floodwater in the Sutlej River, the temporary dams of Basti Yusuf Wala and Ahmed Wala in Bahawalpur broke.

Due to the break of the dam, Basti Ahmed Bakhsh and nearby settlements have also been submerged in floodwater. Due to the rapid flow of water, land erosion has accelerated, hundreds of acres of cultivated cotton and paddy have been submerged, while hundreds of people living in the riverbed are still in their homes.

A 600,000 cusecs of water entered the Chenab River within the limits of Kot Momin. Water has started entering the fields and nearby settlements, while a 100,000 cusecs of water is likely to pass through Kot Momin today. Deputy Commissioner Sargodha says that the district administration has completed arrangements to deal with the flood.
