Siraj-ul-Haq criticizes KP Govt: calls for alignment with national foreign policy on Afghanistan

MARDAN: Former Jamaat-e-Islami emir Siraj-ul-Haq has warned that the worsening relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan could have catastrophic consequences for both nations. Speaking to the media in Mardan, he emphasized that any efforts by a provincial government to engage with Afghanistan without the federal government’s backing are bound to fail and are contrary to national policy.

“If a province is allowed to negotiate with Afghanistan today, it might start dealing with India tomorrow,” Haq cautioned, stressing the need for a unified approach in foreign policy matters.

Haq also touched on domestic politics, predicting that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif might soon find himself echoing the popular phrase “Mujhe Kyun Nikala” (Why was I removed?). He further criticized Maulana Fazlur Rehman, accusing him of playing a dual role by aligning with both the government and the opposition.

On the issue of Kurram, Haq blamed both the federal and provincial governments for their failure to address the crisis, describing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as being “sandwiched” between the two. He expressed deep concern over the escalating lawlessness in the country, lamenting that no one is willing to take responsibility, leading to widespread chaos.

Haq’s remarks underscore the growing challenges facing Pakistan on both the diplomatic and domestic fronts, calling for urgent action to restore stability and unity.
