The Houthis rebel in Yemen has announced that its Prime Minister, Ahmed al-Ghaleb al-Rahawi, was killed in an Israeli airstrike on the capital city, Sanaa.
The attack occurred last Thursday, reportedly targeting a location where the Prime Minister was attending a workshop. According to the Houthi officials, several ministers were also killed in the same strike.
The Israeli military confirmed the attack but stated it struck a “military target” belonging to what it called the “Houthi terrorist government.” This incident is part of a recent escalation, as Israeli forces have conducted several airstrikes on Yemen in recent days. An attack just four days prior resulted in 10 deaths and over 90 injuries.
In response to the killing, Houthi leadership has vowed to continue its military operations and reaffirmed its commitment to its current war policy.
Ahmed al-Ghaleb al-Rahawi was a key member of the Houthi’s Supreme Political Council and was appointed as Prime Minister by the group, also known as Ansarullah, on August 10, 2024.
