PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Ali Amin Gandapur directed the district administration, PDMA, and Rescue 1122 to immediately move into flood-affected areas of Peshawar and Khyber and personally oversee rescue efforts after heavy rains caused urban flooding.

Acting on his orders, senior officials along with rescue teams reached the worst-hit localities, evacuating nearly 300 people to safer places. PDMA’s Urban Flooding Management Unit deployed dewatering machines to clear water from inundated homes and streets in Shahin Colony, Safia Town, Warsak Road, Regi Bala, Budhni Bridge, and other low-lying areas.

The district administration also relocated families living near Budhni Nullah and Darmangi, using mosque loudspeakers to warn residents against approaching streams and flood channels. Thanks to the swift operation, no casualties were reported from urban flooding. However, in a separate incident, the roof of a house collapsed in Peshawar due to heavy rain, killing a child and injuring three others, who were rushed to hospital.

The Chief Minister instructed authorities to remain in the field until rescue and relief efforts are completed, stressing the timely provision of food, shelter, and other necessities for displaced families. He further ordered emergency teams to stay on high alert, particularly in vulnerable low-lying areas, and ensure machinery, boats, and equipment remain available to handle any situation.
