KP to establish autonomous climate action board

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has decided to set up an autonomous climate action board to lead policymaking and practical steps against the growing threat of climate change. A legislative draft will soon be presented in the provincial assembly.

Under the draft, the board will function with full independence and decision-making authority. It will include eight administrative secretaries and four private sector representatives.

Its responsibilities will cover policy formulation, inter-departmental coordination, research promotion, and collaboration with international institutions. The board will also work on a new climate policy framework, explore carbon credit opportunities, compile greenhouse gas inventories, and promote a low-carbon economy.

The draft further proposes that the board meet at least once every four months to review progress on climate-related projects and ensure effective implementation.
