PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur has demanded that Afghans be granted Pakistani citizenship, saying that if countries like Britain, America and Belgium can grant citizenship to Afghans, then why not Pakistan?
Speaking exclusively to a private news channel Ali Amin Gandapur said that many Afghans have been living in Pakistan for years and are doing business here on a large scale. If they were granted citizenship, they could bring billions of dollars of investment to Pakistan.
The Chief Minister said, “We have to take a bold decision to accept these Afghans. They are already doing business in Pakistan, and economic activities will expand further after they were granted citizenship.”
Ali Amin Gandapur further said, “If developed countries like the US, UK and Belgium can grant citizenship to Afghans, why not Pakistan? We too, will have to take practical steps in the national interest.”
On this occasion, he also said that he wanted to be present among the victims due to the ongoing flood situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, that is why he is postponing his visit to Punjab. “The people of Punjab are our brothers. If any service is required, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is ready to provide all possible support.”
