KP anti-corruption dept starts probe into irregularities in sports funds

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Anti-Corruption Department has started investigation into financial and administrative irregularities in the sports department. The provincial anti-corruption body has sought all records after complaints of financial mismanagement.

The ACD also sent a 27-point questionnaire to the Director General of Sports. Authorities want details of funds spent in May and June 2024. They have also asked for information on the hiring process and approval of daily wage employees in the department.

The inquiry seeks records of income and expenditures from three sports complexes. Officials have requested details of five bank accounts. They also want records of all construction and renovation projects, including contracts awarded within the department and the DG Office.

Investigators are reviewing the construction of 1,000 sports grounds. Reports suggest substandard materials were used.

The Pakhtun Digital correspondent made several attempts to get the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sports Minister Fakhar Jehan stance but didn’t get any response.
