PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council (KPBC) expressed dissatisfaction with the security committee’s response regarding inadequate security arrangements at court premises.
Acting Chief Justice S.M Atiq Shah and Justice Waqar Ahmed heard a petition in the Peshawar High Court concerning security.
The petitioner’s lawyer informed the court that two meetings of the security committee, chaired by the Registrar of the High Court, had taken place. During these meetings, the Acting Chief Justice inquired about the committee’s findings, to which the Registrar reported a notification dated December 30 regarding security provisions for judges. “Previously, additional session judges and civil judges had no security; however, measures have now been implemented for judges in the southern districts,”
The Registrar of the Peshawar High Court requested that the court postpone the case until after a meeting scheduled for February 24, which would address the security of judges and courts in Kurram.

The Acting Chief Justice then inquired about the security arrangements for the court premises. The Registrar replied that the police had provided security to the Bar Association in the southern districts.
The court asked members of the KP Bar Council about their satisfaction with the security situation, to which they responded that adequate security had not been provided.
The court subsequently adjourned the hearing, requesting a detailed report following the committee’s meeting regarding security.
It is important to note that some time ago, following repeated attacks on court staff and judges in the southern districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the KP Bar Council applied to court. As a result of several hearings, a committee comprising the Inspector General of Police, the Chief Secretary, and the Registrar of the High Court was formed to address the security of the courts and judges.
