LAHORE: Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has confirmed that as many as 50 people lost their lives and affected hundreds of villages by severe flooding in Punjab’s major rivers Ravi, Sutlej, and Chenab.
Punjab’s Relief Commissioner Nabeel Javed revealed that over 4,100 villages have been impacted by the flooding, which has displaced millions.
Nabeel Javed said that approximately 4.225 million people have been affected across Punjab, with more than 2 million already evacuated to safer areas.
The government has established 423 relief camps, 512 medical camps, and 432 veterinary camps in the most severely affected districts.
Relief Commissioner further said that the situation remains critical, adding that relief and rescue operations are ongoing, and so far, around 1.511 million livestock have been relocated to safe locations to prevent further economic losses for the rural population.
Water levels at major dams are also approaching critical thresholds. Tarbela Dam is currently at 100% capacity, Mangla Dam at 87%, while India’s Bhakra Dam on the Sutlej River is reported to be 90% full. Additionally, Pong Dam is at 99% and Thein Dam at 97% capacity.

Authorities continue to urge residents in vulnerable areas to evacuate and cooperate with rescue teams as further rainfall is expected in the coming days.
