Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has paid tribute to the officers, men and personnel of the Pakistan Navy on the occasion of Navy Day on September 8.
In a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s House, he said that the history of the Pakistan Navy is full of timeless stories of bravery and sacrifices, in which Operation Somnath during the 1965 war holds a memorable status.
The Prime Minister said that in this operation, the Pakistan Navy carried out a decisive attack on the Indian coastal city of Dwarka and destroyed the enemy’s communication system, which was not only a demonstration of the practical capabilities of the Navy but also a proof of the unwavering determination of the country’s integrity. He said that this battle still refreshes the spirit of defending the homeland of the naval personnel.
Shahbaz Sharif said that even after 1965, the Pakistan Navy played a key role in maintaining the balance of power in the Arabian Sea and made Pakistan’s defence impregnable with its professionalism and strategy. Referring to the recent Battle of Haq, he said that the Pakistan Navy has once again provided practical proof of its readiness and determination and has made it clear that Pakistan knows how to protect its water borders at all costs.
The Prime Minister said that the Pakistan Navy is playing a prominent role not only on the war front but also in the country’s water economy, development of ports, welfare of coastal communities and joint exercises at the global level. He said that the protection of waterways and relief services in natural disasters have increased the honour and prestige of Pakistan.
Finally, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that today, on the occasion of Navy Day, we salute our past and present heroes. He prayed that Allah Almighty may grant progress, prosperity and success to the Pakistan Navy, the armed forces and the country.
