The prospects of resuming direct flights from Pakistan to the US have once again brightened as a five-member team of the US Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) has started a safety audit of the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), which is conducting a detailed review of various departments of the institution.

According to sources, security was tightened around the CAA headquarters and related departments on the occasion of the arrival of the FAA team and a heavy police force was deployed. This audit is being considered important for Pakistan’s category upgrade, in which direct flights can be restored if successful.

Pakistan is currently in Category Two in the US. The FAA had reduced Pakistan’s rating from Category One to Category Two after the CAA’s fake license pilots scandal came to light. Now, based on the results of the ongoing audit, Pakistan’s air rating can be upgraded again.

The US Federal Aviation Authority team will leave Pakistan for the United States on September 12 after completing a safety audit. The direct flight from Pakistan to US was cancelled due to some safety concern and now the team would conduct the audit to declare Pakistani flights to US suitable and safe.
