Journalists boycott Aleema Khan’s media talk following PTI workers’ scuffle

RAWALPINDI: Journalists staged a boycott of Aleema Khan’s media briefing outside Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi after a physical and verbal altercation with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers.

During the incident, one journalist was assaulted, while several others were reportedly manhandled. The press corps announced the boycott in protest against the mistreatment they faced from party supporters.

The scuffle occurred days after Aleema, sister of PTI founder Imran Khan, was targeted with eggs during another media interaction outside the jail. Speaking after attending a Toshakhana case hearing, Aleema remained composed despite the attack, stating, “We don’t care if anyone attacks us, as we knew this would happen,” before leaving the scene.

Rawalpindi police said the women involved in the egg-throwing were affiliated with PTI and had come from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. They were part of protests staged by the All Government Employees Grand Alliance (AGEGA) and APCA against Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur over delayed salaries and administrative issues. The women were taken into custody and shifted to Adiala police post for questioning.

Tensions escalated as PTI workers, including former MPA Seemabia Tahir, condemned the women’s actions, claiming the protest was intended to create chaos and undermine the party leadership.
