Yakka Ghund: The district administration of Lower Mohmand has officially issued notices to Afghan refugees, directing them to return to their home country within the given timeframe.
According to details, Additional Assistant Commissioner Lower Mohmand and Tehsildar Yakka Ghund Fazal Khaliq have issued notices, which have been prominently displayed in markets, streets, and other areas of the district.
The notices direct Afghan refugees to ensure their voluntary return under the supervision of the Government of Pakistan within the given timeframe. The administration has warned that legal action will be taken against those found residing illegally after the deadline.
The district administration has also appealed to the public to fully cooperate with law enforcement agencies to ensure that the process is conducted peacefully, transparently, and in an orderly manner.
This move is part of the Pakistani government’s ongoing policy to ensure the repatriation of undocumented foreign nationals, particularly Afghan refugees, residing without registration, in different areas of the country.
According to reports, an estimated 1.4 million are now registered with the U.N. refugee agency and have Proof of Residence cards, or PoR, issued by Pakistani authorities, which have refused to reissue them after June 30, the original deadline for voluntary reptariation, drawing criticism from rights groups.
Earlier, Lateef-ur-Rehman, a spokesman for the KP Home and Tribal Affairs Department told a news agency that the Afghan refugees have been granted 25-day grace period, from August 4 to August 31, to voluntarily return to their home country.
