Russia has announced that its experimental cancer vaccine, Enteromix, has completed clinical trials, with officials claiming both safety and high efficacy, raising hopes for a cure for the deadly cancer disease, according to a report published in Newsweek.
The vaccine is “ready for use now,” Veronika Skvortsova, head of the Russian Federal Medical-Biological Agency (FMBA), told the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, pending official approval. She said years of research, including three years of mandatory clinical trials, have shown a 60 to 80 per cent reduction in tumours, depending on the type of cancer, along with improved survival rates.
The vaccine is initially aimed at colorectal cancer, with further development underway for glioblastoma and melanoma, including ocular melanoma, the report said. Some media outlets have suggested that the vaccine has achieved 100% efficacy in trials, although Newsweek said it could not verify that claim.
