Facebook introduces more features in ‘Community Notes’

Internet technology company Meta has introduced some new features for its crowdsourced fact-checking program Community Notes.
The fact-checking Community Notes feature was introduced in the US earlier this year and has now been expanded.
According to the technology website, now under the feature, users will be able to receive notifications of community notes on their posts on Facebook, Instagram and Threads.
Similarly, now users will be able to request notes as well as tell whether the note on the post is helpful or not. The said feature has been given access to limited users on a trial basis.
According to Meta’s chief information security officer, 70,000 contributors have written 15,000 notes since the launch, but only 6% of them have been published, which is still very low in a large market like the US.
The Community Notes system on Facebook is similar to the model introduced by XK in 2021. However, X’s notice system has also been criticised for not being able to stop misinformation in a timely and widespread manner.
Unlike X, Facebook’s notice system is triggered when users with different views agree on a single opinion.
Critics say that this consensus is not always easy to achieve and that misinformation often goes viral before accurate information.
Facebook has introduced Community Notices to replace its fact-checking system. The social website has announced that it will end its fact-checking program, but several organisations have called on Meta to resume the fact-checking program.
