Pakistan joins Africa-1 submarine cable for faster internet

KARACHI: Pakistan has been linked to the Africa-1 submarine cable to enhance its internet speeds and connectivity.

Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) announced on Saturday that it successfully connected the cable to its exchange in Karachi.

The Africa-1 cable spans 10,000 kilometers and will link Pakistan to Saudi Arabia, UAE, Egypt, Sudan, Algeria, France, Kenya, Djibouti, and other key locations.

This connection will improve Pakistan’s digital infrastructure and strengthen its global telecom links. The submarine cable will enhance national internet capacity, supporting innovation and economic stability.

PTCL joined the Africa-1 cable system consortium through a formal agreement. The company stated that this initiative aligns with Pakistan’s Digital Vision 2030, aiming to bridge the digital divide and empower people.

The Africa-1 cable system is expected to become operational in early 2026. PTCL assured consumers that they will soon have access to world-class internet services.
