PMDA forecasts widespread thunderstorms, rain across KP

Rain triggers power outage in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: The Pakistan Meteorological Department Authority (PMDA) has predicted widespread rain-wind and thunderstorms in the upper districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa starting from Tuesday.

Heavy rain could trigger flash floods in vulnerable areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Kashmir between February 25th and March 1st.

Mountainous regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Murree, and Galliyat may experience landslides.

The affected areas are expected to include Chitral, Dera, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Batgram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Malakand, Buner, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Waziristan, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Bannu, Karak, and Kohat, where intermittent rains and snowfall are expected on the mountains.

The PDMA has also recommended that residents and tourists in sensitive high-altitude areas take preventive measures to stay informed about weather updates.

In these areas, messages will be sent to the local population in their native languages.

The PDMA’s Emergency Operations Center is fully operational, and the public is advised to report any emergencies through the PDMA’s toll-free helpline at 1700.
