PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has reported its first domestically transmitted Monkeypox, which has been confirmed by the health authorities.
Director of Public Health Dr. Fazal Majeed said this is the first locally transmitted (community) case of mpox in the province as all previously reported cases were linked to international travel.
Earlier, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had reported two cases of Monkeypox this year with a travel history from Gulf countries.
Dr Fazal Majeed said that the patient was shifted to the hospital on February 18, while on February 19, rashes appeared on her body and mouth, on which her samples were sent to the Public Health Reference Laboratory in Peshawar, the report confirmed the disease on February 21.
The health department has completed the screening of the patient’s husband and other close relatives and all the affected people have been instructed to self-isolate at home.
A rapid response team has also been formed on the instructions of the Director General Health Services Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which is conducting further investigations.

Dr. Fazal Majeed has appealed to the public to be aware of the symptoms of Monkeypox and in case of any suspicious symptoms, immediately contact the nearest health center.
