KP Foods Authority seals several hotels, canteens

 

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority Director General Wasif Saeed has sealed several hotels and canteens in Swabi and Charsadda districts for poor sanitation and other violations.

According to a spokesperson for the Food Authority, the DG Food Authority, along with Deputy Commissioner Swabi, conducted surprise raids on the main market Swabi, the canteen of Bacha Khan Medical College and big hotels near Anbar Interchange. During this, three big hotels were sealed due to substandard food supply, poor sanitation and expired licenses, while further action has been initiated.

The spokesperson further said that the DG Food Authority also inspected hotels near Nastha Interchange Charsadda, where serious violations of food safety norms were found. Similarly, the canteen of Bacha Khan Medical College was also sealed due to untrained workers and poor sanitation arrangements and improvement orders were issued.

DG Food Authority Wasif Saeed expressed his strong anger at the owners and staff of the Swabi District Food Authority for the provision of substandard food in hotels and violations of food safety norms and suspended the relevant staff. He said that these actions were taken on the complaints of students and the public, and further steps will be taken in this regard.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Minister Zahir Shah Toro said that a special strategy has been decided to monitor food during Ramadan. He clarified that providing safe food to the public is the top priority of the government and a zero-tolerance policy will be followed against those selling substandard food.

The Food Minister warned hotel, restaurant and canteen owners to strictly follow the food safety norms, otherwise, strict legal action will be taken against them.
