Over 100 police personnel dismissed for refusing Champions Trophy duty

LAHORE: Over 100 Punjab police personnel were dismissed from their jobs in Lahore for refusing to perform security duties for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

The ICC Champions Trophy 2025, starting from February 15,  is being held in three major cities- Karachi, Rawalpindi, and Lahore- of Pakistan and will be continued until March 9.

Aaj News cited police sources reported that the dismissed personnel belonged to the anti-riot force and were dismissed on the orders of the DIG Operations.

The details of the dismissed personnel have been recorded in the official report. Police officials say that several personnel refused to appear for security duty, while some remained absent making excuses.

According to police sources, the dismissed personnel were absent from the security duties of the Champions Trophy. Some personnel made various excuses for not appearing for security duty. Despite strict security arrangements during cricket matches, some personnel flatly refused to perform duty.

Police department officials, while giving their stand, said that those who are negligent in performing their duties have no place in the department, and such negligence will never be tolerated.

Currently, Rawalpindi is hosting the ICC Champions Trophy matches for which more than 5,000 police officers and personnel is performing security duties.

According to police, more than 8,000 officers and personnel will perform security duties in Lahore.
