ANP Chief Aimal Wali Announces Ramadan With Saudi Arabia

Charsadda: Aimal Wali Khan, the Awami National Party (ANP) chief, has announced that he will observe the holy month of Ramadan in accordance with Saudi Arabia’s moon sighting, diverging from the decision of Pakistan’s Ruet-e-Hilal Committee. In a video message shared on Facebook on Friday evening, Khan emphasized the importance of Muslim unity and solidarity, while criticizing the committee’s frequent deviations from the global Islamic consensus.

In his message, Khan stated, “As Muslims, it is essential for us to demonstrate unity and solidarity. However, Pakistan’s Ruet-e-Hilal Committee often makes decisions that differ from the global perspective, depriving us of the blessings of the last ten days of Ramadan and the spiritual benefits of collective worship.”

Khan argued that following authentic and reliable sources for moon sighting is crucial to maintaining unity within the Muslim Ummah. “I believe we should base our decisions on credible, Sharia-compliant, and scientific methods. For this reason, I have decided to fast and celebrate Eid this year according to the announcement made by Saudi Arabia,” he said.

He further urged his followers and the public to consider this matter thoughtfully and make their decisions based on systematic, Sharia-compliant, and scientific principles. “I request all friends to reflect on this issue and decide in a manner that aligns with our faith and unity as a global Muslim community,” Khan added.

Concluding his message, Khan prayed, “May Allah grant us steadfastness in our religion and enable us to fully benefit from the blessings and spiritual rewards of Ramadan. Ameen.”

This announcement has sparked debate, as it challenges the authority of Pakistan’s Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, which traditionally determines the Islamic calendar for the country. Khan’s decision highlights ongoing discussions within Pakistan about the need for a unified approach to moon sighting that aligns with the broader Muslim world.
